The Coast Guard is seeking the public's assistance with the investigation of a reported ship sinking in Maine.

ROCKLAND, Maine a ' The Coast Guard is searching for a fisherman who was forced into the cold waters of Penobscot Bay after his vessel apparently sank late Saturday morning.

A Coast Guard spokesman says the call came in about noon Saturday. The call came from a man saying he was aboard the fishing boat Steven Bowden , and that the vessel was sinking between Deer Isle and Vinalhaven.

" The Coast Guard has suspended a search of the waters near Vinalhaven for an unknown fisherman who said he was forced to abandon his sinking vessel on Saturday.
