Vinalhaven Land Trust works to preserve the beauty and wild character of natural places on Vinalhaven and the many smaller islands in the township. Working together with landowners, the Trust conserves areas of significance by using permanent land protection agreements and by fee ownership.
As another means of accomplishing our goals,Vinalhaven Land Trust works to reach every student in every grade at Vinalhaven School with at least one place-based environmental education program or activity each year.
We also offer a series of walks and talks open to the public. For more information, please see the local paper (The Wind), posters around town,or our website. With almost 15 miles of hiking trails of varied length and terrain, VLT offers people of all abilities an opportunity to experience the natural beauty of the island.
Incorporated in 1986, VLT was accredited by the Land Trust Accreditation Commission in 2012. We maintain an office year round in Skoog Park on the Sands Rd. A kiosk by the parking lot has trail maps and other information.
